This is the first episode in our new series called “Psalm 119: Walking with the Word.”
We will take a deep dive into Psalm 119, which is all about choices.
We will learn about the Psalmist’s commitments to God throughout the Psalm and how God’s word dominated the Psalmist’s choices and lifestyle. The Psalmist chose to allow the word of God to permeate his whole being, which activated a desire within him to walk daily with God, which allowed him to infiltrate his world for the Lord.
Our goal is to learn how to allow the word of God to permeate our whole being, to activate a desire within us to walk with Christ daily as we infiltrate our world by living out the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- I choose to live a blameless life.
Ps 119: 1 NKLV “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord!
As a follower of Jesus, we need to choose to live the Jesus way.
- I choose to actively seek him with my whole heart.
Ps 119:2: Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!
“Who seek Him with the whole heart” is active. Seeking after God by learning more about him in his word is an active faith. Seeking after God needs to be a complete commitment on the part of every Christian who seeks after God.
- I choose to do no wrong.
Ps 119:3: “They also do no iniquity; They Walk in His ways.”
- I choose to delight in following your precepts.
Psalm 119:4: “You have commanded us, to keep Your precepts diligently.”
The Psalmist has a passion and a strong desire to keep God’s word diligently as he walks with the Lord.
How strong is your desire and passion to keep God’s word diligently in your life?
- I choose to be unwavering and to not be ashamed.
Psalm 119:5-6: “Oh, that my ways were directed, to keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.”
- I choose to praise you and to keep your word.
Psalm 119:7-8: I will praise You with uprightness of heart, When I learn Your righteous judgments. I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!
The Psalmist continues to seek and learn more about God and to commit to walking the Jesus way. He will praise God when he is convicted of sin, realizing that God is molding him. He will praise God as he deals with the adversity of sin, knowing that God will be true to his word. The Psalmist will praise God as he is blessed by walking in the law of the Lord as he continues to seek him with his whole heart. Psalm 119 is all about choices. To choose to walk the Jesus way or to walk in the opposite direction.
