Psalm 119: Crouching Sin, Hidden Word

Sin is crouching at your door. What will you do about it? In today’s portion of Psalm 119, we discuss the effects of sin and the fact that when we have the Word of God hidden in our hearts, we have an essential tool to avoid being pounced on.

Tune in to today’s second episode of our Strengthening Your Walk discipleship series on Psalm 119, Walking with the Word to hear the following points contained within the message.

Point #1:  We must protect our hearts with God’s word.

Like a wall surrounding a castle, we need to have our hearts surrounded by the word of God to protect. The more we study and internalize God’s word, the more we can begin to spot those areas in life where sin is crouching, ready to pounce, and we can rule over it.

Point #2: Discipline from God is necessary to bring us back to Jesus.

A True believer in Jesus will be remorseful when they fall into sin, and a true child of God will not continue living in a sin pattern.

Point #3: Don’t allow anger to lead us into sin.

Point #4 Hide more truth in your heart by delighting and meditating on God’s word.

To delight means to rejoice and to be glad when we learn more truths from God’s word. Delighting in God’s word expresses joy and a response to God’s salvation, his righteous acts in our lives, and his presence. God’s word is a treasure worth laying up.

God’s wisdom is more incredible than riches, and his instructions are more valuable than gold and silver.

Sin is crouching at our door, and as we will learn from today’s portion of Psalm 119 that when we have the word of God hidden in our hearts, we can choose not to sin against him and others. However, the only way we can hide God’s word in our hearts and the power to flee from sin is through our relationship with God in Jesus Christ.
