Valued: To Seek and to Save

In today’s podcast episode titled “To Seek and to Save,” we will unpack the story of Zacchaeus. From this event recorded for us from the life of Zacchaeus, we will see how we play a part in God’s mission and How God plays his part in seeking and saving the lost.

A sneak peak of Zacchaeus story from Luke 19:1-10

Jesus was traveling through Jerico and Zacchaeus wanted to meet him. Because he was a man of short stature, he climbed a tree to get a peak.

As Zacchaeus looked upon this 65-foot flowering massive broad-leaf tree; he reflected on a time when that tree’s dense round canopy provided shade and comfort in the warm Israeli sun, with leaves shaped like hearts with yellow veins running through them and peeling bark that ranged from a yellowish green to orange to reveal a vibrant yellow inner bark that Zacchaeus used to collect as a little boy. He remembered the edible figs of the Sycamore tree that he would eat after the figs transitioned from green to red when ripe.

The Sycamore tree has been a source of substance since the days of Moses, with David, Solomon, Isaiah, and Amos referencing how valuable the tree was to Israel.

And on this day, as Jesus traveled through Jericho, this Sycamore tree provided a way for Zacchaeus to meet the one who is the sustainer of all life. As he climbed limb by limb, working his way over the crowd, he finally climbed to a branch high enough to glimpse this man claiming to be the Son of God. Then, the unthinkable happened: Jesus looked up and saw Zacchaeus in the tree.
